2008 STATE OF THE STATE
ADDRESS
Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
...Indiana is tonight a stronger state: economically,
fiscally, in the effectiveness with which it acts on
its citizens’ compassion for those less fortunate.
And we have it before us to make this fourth year one
of special achievement, as we strengthen the security
of families in their homes....

2007 STATE
OF THE STATE ADDRESS
Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
...This is my third trip to this very special place
and, while the awe of it will never diminish, the setting
has become somewhat familiar. I say "somewhat",
because somehow, something is different...
2006 STATE
OF THE STATE ADDRESS
Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
...You provide me the privilege of this podium for
just the second time, but I know that the excitement
I feel on these occasions will never fade. Coming together,
in the presence of our fellow citizens, to assess the
condition of our state, and of its governance, and
to think together about plans for its future greatness
– surely everyone here feels as honored as I
do just to be present.
When we met last year, I described the state of
our state as “far from sound”, and “in
need of serious attention.” I noted that
state government was broke, and broken. That we
were far behind in making the changes needed to
restore income to Hoosier paychecks, and an atmosphere
of opportunity that persuades our young people
to stay and build their lives here....
2005 STATE
OF THE STATE ADDRESS
Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
...We are a state of people who speak plainly. We are
a state of people who get to the point. Let me try
to do both this evening, right now.
The state of our state is far from sound. The
state of our state needs serious attention. The
foundation is still firm, but major repairs are
overdue...
CONVENTION MESSAGE
Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
...I regret not being with you all today, but I
hope I’m where you’d want me to be, and
that’s pursuing new jobs for Hoosiers over
in Asia. I’ll mainly miss the chance to see
so many friends at one time, but in this job you
tend to miss all the fun.
Conventions are times for fun, and transacting important
business. But they’re also days to redefine
for ourselves and our fellow citizens the critical
differences between us and our opponents. As the
last year and a half has shown, those differences
are enormous, and profound....
